The debate surrounding the namesake of the university already arose in the 1960s and is still ongoing. Newspapers in Münster cover the debate about a possible renaming of the university time and time again. Questions regarding the worthiness of the namesake are raised, possible alternatives introduced and the affordability of such a renaming discussed. This reader provides an overview of the life and political work of Wilhelm II. Additionally, other universities with questionable namesakes are presented as exemplary cases where a renaming process was endorsed or rejected for various reasons.
